Italian-Inspired Tuna Casserole: A Flavorful Twist on a Classic
Taking a break from studying led me to rediscover one of my go-to comfort meals: tuna casserole. This time, I decided to update the traditional recipe taught by my Granny B—who hailed from Trinidad and first introduced me to this easy, delicious dish.
However, I wanted something different, more exciting, and fitting for my taste today. So, I ventured into Trader Joe's to gather the ingredients for an Italian-inspired tuna casserole that would last a few days without losing its appeal. Here’s how I created this divine twist on a classic:
Ingredients:
3 cans albacore tuna in water
1 large can of cream of mushroom soup
1 cup shredded carrots (for time-saving)
1 cup Italian cheese blend (Quattro Formaggi)
1 cup shredded mild cheddar cheese
1 package egg noodles
1 cup corn (optional)
Preparation:
Cook the egg noodles in salted water until tender, about 15 minutes.
Drain and soak the tuna to remove the water.
In a separate dish, mix the cooked noodles, drained tuna, cream of mushroom soup, shredded carrots, Italian cheese, mild cheddar, and corn into a thick, creamy mixture.
Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 24 minutes, until the top is browned and bubbly.
The result? A casserole with exquisite flavors and no tuna aftertaste. The combination of Quattro Formaggi and cheddar gives it a savory, satisfying finish—perfect for anyone who enjoys Italian cuisine.
Bon appétit!
